Acne & Depression
There have been many stories of people specially teens getting depressed
after acne appears on their face or body, usually when a teen hits puberty
acne sometimes starts to appear, this can be a big problem since usually
at this age they are still going to school and they can make fun of the
person. Pimples usually can appear in several parts of their face
like their forehead, back, nose, etc and even worst is that they start to
pop them and then that is when they get acne scars. When a teen or an
adult is depressed because of acne the first thing that needs to be done
is have a family member or a friend talk to them about the problem, this
is to help the person not get depressed any more.
The problem with acne is that sometimes the regular acne treatments do not
work that well, some people try everything and nothing works, this is
usually due to their type of skin, for example very oily skin has more
potential of developing acne than dryer skin. To help a depressed person
or teen who has tried almost everything over the counter is to take that
person to a doctor and evaluate the problem to find the best solution.
Remember that acne is not only developed just because of your skin, many
things are involved like stress, your nutrition, how healthy you are etc,
remember that clearing up your skin most of the time comes from the inside
than from the outside, its really about having a balance between what you
eat, your excursive, life etc.
Also as parents you want to make sure that you talk to your kids about
depression, specially if their friends are making fun of them because they
have acne, there have been cases of suicide because of this so you want to
make sure that you have open communication with your kids about their
life, ask them questions, see how they feel, if they have a really bad
acne problem let them know that you are looking for help, and make sure
that you do, there are a lot of treatments that are not over the counter
that really do work, by asking a skin professional you have a better
chance of getting prescribed the best product for the type of acne that
your kid has. Also if your kid is very depressed talk to a councilor so
they can help your kid be more confident and to help them get out of
depression.
One thing that you can do to help a person with acne is to buy a medicated
exfoliating scrub once or twice a day, also use a wash cloth to scrub your
face, this will help remove any excess oil and the medicated scrub will
also help remove any bacteria that might be in your skin, this is a great
way to prevent acne because when you remove the oil from your skin the
bacteria does not develop.
